The implementation of the Bharat Stage-IV vehicular emission norms in 13 big cities across the country will spell the end of the road for a number of automobile models apart from the original small car, the Maruti 800.

The Ford Ikon, Skoda Octavia and Fiat’s Palio will no longer be sold in the 13 cities, while General Motor’s workhorse Chevrolet Tavera will see a temporary stop in sales in these cities while it is upgraded to meet the new norms.

The 13 cities where BS IV emission norms are being implemented are Delhi/NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Surat, Pune, Kanpur and Agra. These cities constitute 40-50 per cent of the domestic car market.
